Restricted GMDSS Operator Course (obtaining or endorsement)
Objective
The objective of this course is to prepare candidates for the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) Restricted Radio Operator Diploma. Lectures, group workshops and independent work are used to prepare students.
Course Objectives
The course objective is to prepare trainees in accordance with the provisions of the Radio Regulations, the SOLAS-74 Convention and the STCW-78 Convention, with a particular focus on the GMDSS in order to obtain a restricted GMDSS radio operator diploma.
Course content
Students are introduced to the composition of equipment and the content of maritime conventions, as well as the organization of watchkeeping in accordance with the requirements of the Radio Regulations. This is followed by an examination of the types of stations in the mobile-satellite service. Much attention is paid to general theoretical issues of radio communication and safety precautions when working with radio equipment and electromagnetic radiation.
Students get the opportunity to study and practical use of VHF radio stations, get acquainted with information on the safety of navigation and the provisions of the world navigation warning service.
Entry requirements for students
To enroll in the courses, you must meet the following requirements:
- be at least 18 years old;
- Received training at an approved maritime educational institution under the GMDSS Restricted Radio Operator Diploma training program;
- have knowledge in accordance with the document “Specification of minimum requirements for the competence of GMDSS radio specialists”;
- Demonstrate a practical ability to perform tasks and responsibilities in accordance with the above specification.
